Installation takes less than a minute: clean the surface, peel off the protective film, press on, and align. After 24 hours, the adhesive bond reaches its full strength.

What surfaces do self-adhesive house numbers adhere to?

Self-adhesive house numbers adhere reliably to smooth and semi-smooth surfaces. Ideal surfaces include painted metal, brushed stainless steel, smooth plaster, plastic, and smooth concrete. On rough or porous surfaces such as untreated brick, coarse natural stone, or heavily textured plaster, the adhesive surface is too small for a permanent bond. In these cases, we recommend our drilled variants. The self-adhesive models are particularly suitable for mailboxes, metal fence posts, smooth front doors, and intercom systems.

The most common application for self-adhesive house numbers is mailboxes. Many steel or stainless steel mailboxes cannot be drilled without damaging the structure or compromising waterproofness. Our smallest self-adhesive variant, 5 cm high, is specially designed for mailboxes and fits almost any standard mailbox. The 7.6 cm variant is suitable for slightly larger mailboxes or fence posts. Both models are available in black and stainless steel and can be easily combined if the mailbox and house number on the facade are to be in the same color.

With proper surface preparation and on suitable surfaces, the 3M adhesive bond is designed for a lifespan of several years. The adhesive tape is UV-stable and does not lose its adhesive strength due to sunlight. Rain and frost do not affect the bond, provided the surface was clean and dry before installation. In practice, our customers report no significant problems with adhesion when used as intended on suitable substrates.

Can I remove a self-adhesive house number?

Yes, with a little patience. Heat the house number with a heat gun to about 40 to 50 degrees Celsius until the adhesive softens. Then the house number can be carefully peeled off without damaging the surface. Any remaining adhesive residue can be completely removed with isopropyl alcohol or a special adhesive remover. This property makes self-adhesive house numbers particularly suitable for rental properties.

Is the self-adhesive variant as weather-resistant as the drilled one?

Yes. The house numbers themselves are made of the same materials: powder-coated aluminum in black and brushed stainless steel. The weather resistance of the house number depends on the material, not the mounting method. The 3M adhesive tape is also designed for outdoor use and is weather-resistant. The only difference from the drilled variant is the mounting method.

How do I prepare the surface before mounting?

Clean the adhesive surface thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol or a grease-dissolving cleaner and let it dry completely. Remove dust, dirt, and grease residue. A clean, dry surface is the most important prerequisite for a durable adhesive bond. After application, press the house number firmly for at least 30 seconds and avoid heavy rain or direct sunlight for the first 24 hours so that the adhesive bond can fully cure.
